In short
Zecretly does not send any data over the network. Everything Zecretly processes stays on your PC.
What Zecretly processes
- Your documents and text. Zecretly only reads what you give it: a file in its window, a file you right-click, or selected text with the keyboard shortcut. Zecretly places a protected copy next to the original, or puts the protected text on the clipboard. Zecretly does not change the original.
- The link between placeholder and real value (a "case file"). It is stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) in the folder
%USERPROFILE%\.zecretly. After 30 days without use, Zecretly deletes it at the next start. In the settings under Data, you can delete one case file or all of them right away. - Settings and profile. Your settings and, if you enter them, your name and email addresses are stored in the same folder. They are only used for display inside Zecretly.
- Clipboard. Zecretly only accesses it when you press the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Z or click Copy in Zecretly.
What Zecretly does not do
No connection to the internet, no usage statistics, no advertising, no account, no sharing with third parties.
Microsoft Store
Installation and updates run through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft's privacy policy applies to that.
After protecting
What you give to an AI after protecting a document is governed by that provider. Zecretly replaces the detected client data beforehand. Zecretly does not find every value, so review the protected copy before you upload it.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling removes the program. The folder %USERPROFILE%\.zecretly stays, so you can still restore after a new installation. Without Zecretly, nobody deletes old case files in it: delete the folder yourself if you no longer need Zecretly.
